I had the opportunity to go to Greece for 2 weeks in June and I jumped at the chance right away to go! One of my good friend’s Hannah & Jamie were getting married in Santorini, so I decided to travel in Greece and then end my holiday with their wedding. How perfect of an ending is that?
Greece was such an awe inspiring country. Definitely one of my favourite spots! It had so much history and was oozing with culture. People were so kind and laid back, they’re not on the go all the time like we are. They know how to truly be at peace, which is something we need to learn as a North American society.
I traveled around to Athens first to see the ruins of the Acropolis. I adored all of the really ancient statues that still have such amazing detail in them. Then I headed up to Meteora which ended up being one of my favourite spots. It had these really unique rock formations that were as tall as mountains, and on top there were these old monasteries that were thousands of years old. You were allowed inside the monasteries, which were magnificent because each one had beautiful frescos inside. And of course a breathtaking view overlooking the town below. After Meteora I headed down south to the island of Crete which had the most amazing beaches with crystal clear tourquoise water. I also visited some very interesting fishing towns like Agios Nikolaos, Heraklion, and Elounda. Elounda was very interesting in particular because there was a little island off of it called Spinalonga, which used to be an old leper colony, and it’s now an island with really cool ruins on it. Then I finished off my time in Santorini. Which is probably one of the most romantic places on earth, and I can see why: Crystal clear water surrounding you, beautiful architecture, and million dollar sunsets. So it was a perfect backdrop for my friends to get married in. More on their story later, in another blog post. 🙂
And of course who can forget the food?! It was so delicious and so fresh! I would be dreaming of when my next meal and ordering several items on the menu. I mean, you only live once right? I would go back to Greece just for the mouth watering feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, fresh fish, and olive oil.
These photos are amazing! I still haven’t been to Greece but hopefully one day I’ll manage to go there! In the meanwhile, I’ll just enjoy your photos! I’m new to this whole blogging thing! I’ll be following your blog from now on! Please do the same for me. I usually publish posts about architecture and photography so I think you’ll be intrested. https://bmyshot.wordpress.com/
